The UMBC Dance Department is pleased to invite high school juniors, seniors, and transfer students interested in pursuing dance study as a major or minor to experience the life of a dance student at UMBC. Come and take dance classes from our instructors. Meet our dance students. Discover our programs and scholarship opportunities. Enjoy a free lunch in the Dining Hall with our current students.
UMBC offers a B.A. in Dance and a Minor in Dance. Many of our students have a second major or minor. Some are enrolled in a UMBC pre-professional or pre-med program, pursuing certification in dance education, or enrolled in a certificate program in another discipline.
Our graduates go on to pursue careers in performing arts, including professional dance companies, Broadway and Off-Broadway shows, national touring companies, and Disney; teaching careers in private dance studios, public education, colleges, and universities; and related professions, such as physical therapy, arts management, arts advocacy, and more.
If you’re interested in exploring dance in college, this event is for YOU.
Things to know:
Attire: For ballet, we recommend form-fitting clothing and soft ballet shoes if you have them. Avoid bare midriffs, keep long hair secured away from your face, and avoid large, bulky jewelry. Bring layers to stay warm, and add something for contemporary and improvisation. We recommend a long-sleeved top for improvisation, as we will be moving in and out of the floor.
- Bring a water bottle.
- There will be transition time and breaks between the different workshops/classes.
- You will have access to the dressing rooms behind the studio where we will be.
Drop-off and Pick-Up suggestions:
Drop-off: If you are being dropped off, you can be let off either in front of the Performing Arts Building or behind (from Lot 9, walk in through the small courtyard).
Pick up: If you don’t want to walk back up to the Performing Arts and Humanities Building, you can be picked up near True Grits (1:30 pm)
Parking is free on the weekend; you can park in LOT 8, LOT 9, or on the circle.
