We will email all who has registered for the audition on the day of the audition with information as to which dance studio you will be assigned to (Cube or Dance Tech).

Project Descriptions:
Allison McKitrick: My intention for my upcoming piece is to show a journey of finding self-love and self confidence. The dance will be contemporary based. I intend on using personal experiences and the experiences of my future dancers to inspire movement.
Eme Chukwuma: I want this piece to highlight the versatility and strength of women. As an African and a woman I often feel that society and culture have put women into a box. I believe that women can be more than one thing. Women can be strong, beautiful, smart, successful and more; I want my piece to showcase the many sides of women. I understand that this is a very broad theme therefore in my piece I hope to focus on only two traits, feminine sensuality and strength. From personal experience I have seen how society/culture tries to mute these two traits and stop women from being or feeling sexy or exhibiting strength. I chose these two traits because I feel that the struggle to express ourselves sexually and be strong are both things that are relatable and will be the most clear to portray in the piece. Because I am African I want my movement to be influenced by African culture without being too literal. I want every woman to be able to relate to the piece no matter their race/ethnicity.
Michaela Emmerich: My URA project revolves around the concept of grayness as a result of power imbalance. Grayness is a state of uncertainty and questioning in a relationship, where it is difficult to navigate the space between extreme highs and lows. Through narrative and gesture based choreography, my work will examine this state through the lens of power imbalance. I will be using exploration based choreographic devices in my process to create material, including experiential improvisation with elements such as space, time, and shape. I will also be emphasizing a focus on sensation and emotion in the body through my process.
Rachel Wesley: My URA project delves into the exploration of synergy between audience engagement and performance. By conducting a real-time survey, audience preference and decisions will ultimately shape characteristics of the piece, creating a work entirely unique to the moment. Three visual elements of art (color, space, and line) will be analyzed through costume orientation, performance spacing, and performer/audience encounters. Through pre-set choreographic structures and minor improvisation that emphasize the specifications of color, space, and line, various solutions become possible and generate abstract anomalies that leave every piece unique to its current audience’s preferences. My objective is to look beyond the modern structure that defines the audience as a passive observer of the art and bring forth new ways by intermingling visual and performing arts to break “the fourth wall” as the invisible divide between the dance work and audience.
Gretta Zinski: (Working title, Subject to change) the jOurney will be about healing and accepting oneself, one’s sexuality, and sensuality. It’s no secret that sex and bodies are taboo topics of conversation, especially in relation to women. The intention behind this work is to start an honest conversation about women’s (and people with vulvas/vaginas and femme presenting people) sexual health, expression, and personal relationship with themselves and sex. Through the creative process we will take a deep dive into the many feelings and experiences that come with being a women, femme presenting, and/or having a vulva/vagina.
Rehearsals will be very structured and include a short warm-up, often conversations about the piece, and dancers will always have something to be working on. My choreography is quite stylized but I love to challenge myself to create dynamic phrases that incorporate different rhythms and movement qualities. In this creative process, movement will be generated heavily from gestures, poses, feelings, and story-lines. I want to include the dancers and their experiences in the creative process and development of the work because their stories are just as important. I hope to create a safe space for sharing, exploring, and understanding through the rehearsal process with conversations, journal prompts, and other activities. **TW** We will be talking about sex, body image, etc. in this process, however every conversation and activity will be optional or will have various ways of participating. Please keep this in mind when choosing to be a part of this experience but I do hope that you keep an open mind and join me on this journey. I will do everything in my power to maintain a safe environment in rehearsals.***
